MORGAN CELEBRATES 25TH YEAR OF ITS SUCCESSFUL PARTNERSHIP WITH BMW.

Morgan is celebrating a significant milestone in its modern history: 25 years of technical partnership and engine supply with BMW. This partnership reflects a strong and enduring relationship between the two brands. BMW power has been a hallmark of Morgan sports cars for over two decades; its characteristic performance has powered the brand’s current four-wheel-drive range and many iconic models produced over the last quarter century. As Morgan continues to shape the next generation of coachbuilding sports cars, BMW engines will remain an integral part of the driving experience.

The long-standing relationship between Morgan and BMW began with the introduction of the Aero 8 in 2000 and has continued with decades of engineering collaboration. To honor this special year, Morgan has brought together 14 of its most significant BMW-powered Morgan sports cars produced over the past 25 years in a single, impressive exhibition for the first time.

From the first Aero 8, unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show in 2000, to Morgan's recently introduced flagship Supersport, this curated selection offers a journey tracing technical advancements and shared goals. Alongside these two extreme models, the exhibition also features several other key Morgan models powered by BMW engines, representing an evolution in performance, efficiency, and dynamic capability.

Comprising 14 vehicles, the exhibition features virtually all BMW powertrains used in Morgan models over the past 25 years. It begins with the 4.4-liter M62 V8 engine used in the first-generation Aero 8; followed by the 4.4-liter N62 V8 engine used in the Aero 8 Series 2 and Series 3 models, and the distinctive AeroMax. Also on display is the final chapter of Morgan's 50-year V8 story: the 4.8-liter BMW N62 used in later Aero models and the Plus 8. This engine made its final appearance in main production in 2018 with the last Plus 8 produced at Pickersleigh Road; it then made its complete farewell with the nine motorsport-inspired Plus 8 GTRs produced in 2021 — six of these nine vehicles are featured in the exhibition.

More recently, BMW's power has been channeled through the 3.0-liter B58 TwinPower Turbo inline six-cylinder and the 2.0-liter B48 TwinPower Turbo inline four-cylinder engines. First introduced in the Plus Six in 2019, the B58 was the first inline six-cylinder and first turbocharged engine used in a Morgan. Its introduction coincided with the development of Morgan's all-new CX platform — a platform designed and engineered in-house that doubles the torsional rigidity compared to previous aluminum architectures, yet weighs less than 100 kg. The CX platform represents a significant step forward, bringing modern performance, refinement and capability without compromising the timeless proportions of the Morgan silhouette.

The B58 engine also powers Morgan’s coachbuilding barchetta, the Midsummer, which was unveiled in May 2024 and developed in collaboration with Pininfarina. The Midsummer reflects a shared focus on design integrity and coachbuilding expertise with its sculptural form and exposed cockpit surrounded by teak wood. In this context, the smooth and responsive performance of BMW’s inline six-cylinder engine further enhances the car’s open and driver-integrated driving environment. Production of the final examples of this special production run, planned at a total of 50 units, has begun at Pickersleigh Road and is expected to be completed in early 2026.

Following the B58, the BMW B48 engine was introduced in the Plus Four model in 2020. The newest representative of the four-cylinder engine tradition that has powered the model for 75 years, the B48 offers simple and effortless performance befitting the car's character. Its balanced structure gives drivers the freedom to enjoy both pleasurable B-road driving and a leisurely, leisurely ride.

Earlier this year, the Plus Four returned to the United States — the first officially launched Morgan four-wheel-drive model in the US market since the early 2000s. Morgan’s continued collaboration with BMW played a key role in achieving this significant milestone. The Plus Four is homologated under the “replica car” rule of the FAST Act, which allows the company to reproduce a model sold in the US more than 25 years ago. To meet the requirements applicable across all states, Morgan and BMW worked together to certify an engine package compliant with SPMV regulations for CARB states. This package is based on the B46 engine, a SULEV-compliant version of the 2.0-liter B48 used in other markets.

Morgan’s four-wheel-drive range has used only BMW engines since 2020. The newest addition to this lineup is the Supersport, introduced in March 2025. The Supersport represents a new design language for Morgan — a contemporary interpretation of the brand’s timeless silhouette — and is powered by a 3.0-liter BMW B58 six-cylinder engine paired with the advanced CXV platform. As Morgan’s most dynamically capable model to date, the Supersport combines lightweight construction, driver-focused engineering, and the engine’s instantaneous, impressive performance, taking the Morgan driving experience to a new level of interaction and precision.

Two additional cars featured in the 14-vehicle exhibition highlight Morgan’s motorsport legacy and BMW’s contribution to the field. BMW engines were used in the early days of the Aero 8 GT racing program, including participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the FIA GT3 European Championship. Representing this period, a 2004 Aero 8 LMGT Le Mans race car is on display. Also on display is a 2020 Plus Four race car used in a program run in partnership with the University of Wolverhampton’s Engineering Faculty and racing team; this vehicle supports the development of future motorsport engineers and provides a valuable testing platform for component evaluations.

Taken as a whole, this selection of 14 vehicles showcases the breadth and evolution of Morgan design over the past 25 years. It also reflects the flexibility of the company's 21st-century approach to coach building and the skill of the craftsmen who produce these cars on Pickersleigh Road.

“BMW has been a trusted technical partner for Morgan for a quarter of a century, and we are extremely proud of what we have achieved together. The collaboration between Morgan and BMW remains a cornerstone of Morgan’s engineering and product identity. BMW engines have consistently delivered the reliability, performance, and character that underpin the Morgan driving experience; helping to ensure pure driving pleasure for the past 25 years. This partnership is built on shared values that combine our handcrafted production, individuality, and driver-focused engineering with BMW’s exceptional powertrain technology.”

Matthew Hole, General Manager, Morgan Motor Company

Throughout 25 years of uninterrupted design and engineering progress, BMW’s reliable, efficient and characterful powertrains have been a constant element enabling each model to deliver its unique Morgan driving experience, and supporting continuous innovation in lightweight, coachbuilding performance. During this time, Morgan has become BMW’s longest-standing OEM engine partner, supplying approximately 5,000 engines for assembly at Pickersleigh Road. Today, Morgan’s B48 and B58 engines are produced at the BMW Group Steyr Plant in Austria.

BMW engines have played a key role in shaping Morgan’s modern dynamic identity, delivering impressive, responsive performance and enabling the company to continue its coachbuilding approach to contemporary sports cars. Looking to the future, Morgan’s partnership with BMW provides a stable and highly competent technical foundation, underscoring our shared commitment to delivering superior driving pleasure.
